Poverty. Less than a year of school. Grief. Election after election lost. Abraham Lincoln had every reason to quit, and he kept going. This 19-minute motivational video follows how he turned failure, loss and doubt into resolve, and draws a practical lesson from each chapter of his life.

It covers his frontier childhood and borrowed books, the failed store and the debt he repaid, his advice that "your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing", his darkest years, the 1858 defeat that made him famous, his rule to leave nothing for tomorrow that can be done today, honesty and self-control, and the firmness and charity he showed at Gettysburg and in his Second Inaugural.

Style: calm, slow-paced narration over cinematic countryside scenery, with word-by-word captions burned in and a still portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The narrator speaks about him in the third person and quotes his own words. No music.

Sources and third-party materials (non-exclusive): Lincoln's quoted words come from his own public-domain letters, notes and speeches (1841 to 1865). The portrait is Alexander Gardner's November 1863 photograph (public domain, via Wikimedia Commons). The scenery footage is from Mixkit under the Mixkit Stock Video Free License.
